Kilmainham Gaol – Dublin, Ireland

My friend Laura took me to Kilmainham Gaol (kill-main-ham jail) as one of the final things to do in Dublin. She grew up in Dublin but had not been to the gaol herself since she was in primary school.

Kilmainham Gaol of the most moving places I have ever been. So much history in one location. Laura and I joined a tour of the gaol and loved it. We were taken down long hallways, up stairs, into cell blocks, and told stories of the people who had been inside. Much of the tour was focused on the men and women placed in the gaol during and following the 1916 Rising.

If you are interested in Irish history, please make sure to check out Kilmainham Gaol. It is located just outside Dublin City Centre in an area called Kilmainham. The entrance fee is €7.00 for adults and €3.00 for children/students.

Morgan spends her spare time dreaming about travel and re-reading Harry Potter. She is a public historian by training and a chocoholic by admission. She also suffers from oldest child syndrome.
