Finding Room in my Room

I’ve been really quiet about life at home since I’ve been back in the States. I’m still trying to get a hang of life here and get into a kind of rhythm. Georgia’s been great and my family have been troopers. The weather hasn’t been too terribly hot and I’ve spent a lot of time with friends. There haven’t been too many obstacles really.

The hardest obstacle I’ve had to overcome has actually been finding a place to put all of my stuff.

Y’all I have a lot of stuff.

Not only have I tried to move all of my stuff from Ireland into my room, but I haven’t lived at home full-time since Fall 2009. So everything in that I just brought home from Ireland is also competing for space from when I moved back into the house with all of my stuff right before I left last year. When I moved back in last Fall, I just kind of put stuff in the basement. Like, this box there and that box in the corner. All of my furniture is side by side by side by side lining my walls.

I have no space.

The first week I was back, the basement looked like a tornado came through. My bags were turned inside out with the clothes spread in organized piles all over the pool table. As I needed a certain dress or top, I would dig through the chaos to find them not clearing away the new mess. Eventually, I started to put things away.

In order to put t-shirts and shorts into my dresser, I had to remove the clothes that were already in there. That meant taking out t-shirts from middle school. MIDDLE SCHOOL. Y’all, I found one shirt that had the date 2003 on it….. There are no words. I also tossed a ton of Sophie shorts. Remember those? Down here in Georgia Sophie shorts were the bee’s knees when we were in middle school. Why in the world had I held on to all of this stuff?! Maybe I’m a pack-rat. I don’t know. Either way, I got the t-shrits and shorts put away.

Dresses have been hung, jumpers put away, and the sleeveless shirts are up as well. I still have to figure out where to put all of my shoes, shorts, and skirts.

Not only do I have to sort all of my clothes, I have to sort the things.

Last night I poured the contents of all of my bathroom things on the floor. I had nail polishes, toothpaste, makeup removers, medicines, soaps, etc. spread on the floor. These were things from pre Ireland and post Ireland. Trash and usable ended up being the two piles of stuff. By about one in the morning, I finally had stuff put away in the bathroom and a giant bag of garbage.

It’s all slowly coming together. My room has no room for the stuff I’m trying to cram into it, but it’ll work out. I totally should have done before and after pictures. I was really just too embarrassed by what the basement looked like when I first arrived. Just trust me when I say it was bad.

I’ll keep y’all updated on the progress.

***The most GIANT thank you ever to my bestir Jessica for coming over and helping sort the chaos. The good Lord knows I wouldn’t have gotten any of it done without your sass and sarcastic looks to push me along. I owe you like, 27 drinks. πŸ˜‰

  1. I had the same problem this summer when I had to fit 5 years worth of living stuff from Manchester into my old room at my Dad’s before moving to Germany. It was a week-long job just to throw old useless stuff away! Sort of therapeutic, though.

  2. AWWW thanks for the S/O! <3 xoxoxoxo NOW. if we could just keep your clothes organized…………… πŸ˜‰
