Throwback Thursday : Isle of Skye

Throwing it back to June 2012 – Isle of Skye, Scotland

Have you ever been some where so magical it touches your soul?

The Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands is one of those places.

Arriving on the island via a giant bridge we were greeted with blue sky and a warm sun. The day started perfectly wandering around a small village.  We ended up at the base of a giant mountain looking at the ruins of a giant fight. Literally. Our guide told us a story of two giants who got into a fight and broke up the land which was why all of the rocks were scattered as they were. He also told us stories of fairy pools and magic water to help keep us youthful. 😉

Shortly after story time, that blue sky disappeared and grey clouds moved in.  They let loose on us with some of the biggest rain drops I could ever recall.  Our bus had vanished so we had to run ten minutes back into the village hopping into the first pub to dry off. A couple pints later, we were dry enough to move on.

The Isle of Skye has some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery.  The Cuith-Raing is a cliff face high in the mountains, and it was stunning.  From the top, we could see miles of green earth ahead of us.  If you know me personally, then you know just how terrified I am of heights. I wouldn’t go near the edge, but loved the view. I remember being in the bus looking out the window thinking that there wasn’t anyway we could keep going higher, but we did. I am so thankful that we got to the top.

The views and memories I have on the Isle of Skye are very special to me. On this three day trip to the Highlands, I slept in a hostel for the first time, put my feet in Loch Ness, lived on Pringle’s, and made incredible memories. Scotland as always won my heart over, but there is a special place for the Isle of Skye.

  3. What hostel did you stay in? My friends and I are trying to book a trip to Skye from Edinburgh but we’re having trouble figuring out how to get there and where to stay
