A Weekend to Breathe

Ireland has an almost nation wide four-day weekend the weekend of Easter.  That means, I have been off work since Friday and won’t be going back until Tuesday!

The hustle and bustle of the 9-5 workaday life is exhausting. I remember my job back in the States and how I came to be all too familiar with the phrase “working for the weekend.” It’s a shame I think that so many people, myself included, fall into that routine. We need time to relax! We need to live a little.

Just about every two months or so, Ireland takes what’s called a Bank Holiday, where many people get the day off. Everyone gets that long weekend! It’s such a blessing to think that at the end of a long road, there is a good break – a time away to heal yourself.  This weekend has done just that.

Beginning the first weekend in May, I will be traveling almost none stop.  I won’t have much time to kick my feet up and watch movies and eat junk food. The 9-5 on top of traveling is about enough to kill a person, but I wouldn’t change what I do. I love the thrill of not missing my flight and being high of coffee back at work Monday morning. But that doesn’t mean I don’t need time off.

Friday I went wandering and enjoyed what little bits of Ireland I found. Yesterday and today however, I have been lazy as all get out. I’ve baked, and cleaned, and watched movies, but all in all, I’ve been slow and lazy. I’ve loved every minute of it.

Tomorrow I think I’ll maybe do a day tour of Ireland. Head off somewhere unknown and wander for a bit. Or maybe I’ll take another day to just be in a giant t-shirt and shorts. Who knows. I’m just thankful for a nice long weekend to breathe.

  1. I know the feeling all too well! While we don’t have bank holidays here (just the thought of it makes me wanna cry), I had Friday off by pure coincidence, and have just been recharging my batteries by sitting in bed and catching up with my tv shows. Sometimes we do need to just stop and take care of ourselves 😉

  2. Long weekends are brilliant – we are convinced that four day work weeks are more efficient and should be implemented everywhere 😉
Sounds like you have lots of fun ahead of you 🙂
