Do you have words that you live by? A quote by your favorite author or a definition that states exactly what you are? Maybe a Bible verse that comforts you and gives you strength to carry on? I have several words that I live by. I couldn’t pick a single mantra if my life depended on it. But the one that comes closest is from the Bible.
Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
What are the words you live by? What’s your mantra?
Very cool. And it really is true…sometimes we don’t know how strong we can be until being strong is the only choice we have.
My personal mantra is, “Love Fearless, Live Free”. xx
Love that!! And it’s so true about being strong. Travel takes its own kind of strong person. To be able to leave our families, friends, and homes like we do. It’s incredible.
I have several, I think the overarching ones are by Marian Wright Edelman, “Service is the rent we pay for living…it is the true measure, the only measure of our success.” and by F.Scott Fitzgerald, “I’m not sure what I’ll do, but — well, I want to go places and see people. I want my mind to grow. I want to live where things happen on a big scale.”
Those are both fantastic! Such wise people in this world.
I have a bunch, but I really love the verse you posted. I’ll be adding it to my list!
Among mine are, “Be so good they can’t ignore you,” from Steve Martin; “Never settle,” which was something one of my drama teachers drilled into our heads; and Conan O’Brien’s parting words on the Tonight Show: “If you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”
Oh, and Matthew 6:25-34, about not worrying because God’s got it all taken care of.
I love that Steve Martin quote! Matthew 6 is one of the set of verses that I gave to my family before they moved over here. 🙂
