Music Moves Me

Everyday I look at WordPress’s Daily Post just in case it’s something related to travel or my life personally that I could write about. Today, the topic is called “Cue the Violins.” It asks, “If your life were a movie, what would its soundtrack be like? What songs, instrumental pieces, and other sound effects would be featured on the official soundtrack album?”

What an amazing question.

For those of you that know me personally, you know I’m a bit of a music junkie. I love new music. I’m constantly looking for a new bandΒ to become obsessed with. My iTunes has just about every genre of music in it. Rock, Disney, Opera, Mozart, Rap, Electronic, Vocal, Country, Piano Sonatas. You name it; I probably have it.

This will also let y’all into my writing process a little bit. When I write, I always have music going in the background. If I have the TV going, I will get distracted and be unproductive. But for some reason when music is going, I can write and write and write and write some more. In college, I would campout in the 24-hour Starbucks getting high on caffeine and jamming to music. Around 3.00am I would finally find my mojo and focus on the assignment due in mere hours. The process has not changed. I still wait until the very last moment possible to write an assignment and jam to music while I do it. Even right now music is playing.

As for the soundtrack to my life, gosh I don’t know. It changes daily, but over the last year, I have had a few songs that stuck to me. They moved me in profound ways. Most of them moved me to happiness, while others moved me to tears. Songs moved to think, and they moved me to act. They moved me to move to Ireland and gave me the strength to move back to America.

Music moves me.

With that in mind, I’m going to list a FEW of the songs that moved me over the last year. I’ll even throw in a few songs that have moved me since I’ve been home. These songs moved me in ways I cannot fully describe, so I’ll just list them. If you want to go look them up (the ones you might not know) and guesstimate why I was so moved by them, feel free! πŸ™‚ Nothing makes me happier than sharing music with people that has moved me in the hopes that they may affect them.

So here it is.

I tried to pick only one song per artist or the songs that had the very most play count in iTunes. Sorry for the double Taylor Swift. I love her. I think she is awesome, and (I believe) her music is genuine and from the deepest, darkest parts of her. She writes her music like I write my blog posts.

These songs have seen me on three different continents, the biggest move of my life, and inspired me to keep moving.

Music moves me.
